Total Cost for a Driver Education Course - $275
Each Driver Education course consists of four classroom sessions, each with its own subject matter and lessons.
Please make checks payable to 17 Mile Driving School.

Our classroom program provides CA. DMV approved curriculum and an interactive driver training simulator that will give new drivers “behind the wheel” experience and will help them gain risk awareness and confidence in a safe classroom environment.  Presentations may be given by police officers, doctors, teens, insurance agents and mechanics.  Parents are also encouraged to attend a Q & A.

Upon successful completion of the driver education classroom session, the new driver will be issued a Driver Education Completion Certificate (DL 400B).

In order to take the knowledge test at the DMV the teen must be at least 15½ and will need their passport, original birth certificate or California identification card, social security card, DMV Driver Education Completion Certificate (DL 400B), license application form (DL44) signed by parent/guardian and glasses or contacts if needed.  In certain circumstances our class may go together to the DMV to take the permit test.

Once the knowledge test has been passed the new driver will have a permit and will need to sign up for the behind the wheel driver training.

The driver training program is competency based which involves driving instruction, observation of drivers and practice with parents.  Remember, the permit is valid for one year.  After completing the Driver Education Registration, please review the Driver Training Registration Form and instructions.

Please note the driver education classroom times your new driver chooses. Choose from the dates available and mail the registration form with the enrollment fee. Generally, classes meet from 10:00am - 5:30pm and are held at 920 41st Ave. Suite H. Santa Cruz, Ca. 95062

  • As a parent, you should keep in mind that passing a driver education class does not mean a person is necessarily going to be a good driver.  Good driving habits must be practiced over a long period of time.  Give your son or daughter every opportunity to gain experience (as a passenger) and guidance from a licensed driver age 25 or older.
  • As a student, you agree to abide by the instructor’s “in class and in car rules”.  If your conduct is not appropriate this contract may be canceled and fee forfeited.

Thank You,
